2nd International Symposium on Jackals and Related Species - 2018

The purpose of having the ”2nd International Jackal and Related Species Symposium” was to gather updated knowledge and information about the golden jackal and the other mid-sized canines in all biogeographic regions and to communicate joint research activities, systematics and specialized monitoring for these mid-sized canid species in specific ecological systems over their entire known range.
The amount and quality of the scientific information on these canids during the past 2 decades has been increased tremendously, so the need to present and disseminate the results is very important, for the wise management of those adaptable and very successful species.
During the 2IJS appeared important to focus more on "human-wildlife conflict", conservation and management aspects and, behavior. A more relaxed timing with selected lectures was suggested by the participants who answered the evaluation questionaires.
The broader projects within GOJAGE scientists network between researchers from western European countries, where the species show critical effectives and the management is not yet addressed; and researchers from central and southeastern countries, where the species reached impressive establishment and where conflicts with farmers and hunters are increasing, are challenges which are on the next agenda.
